Nostalgia, Carner Barcelona D600

D600 is one of the earliest launches from Spanish niche perfume brand Carner Barcelona. The house was founded in 2009 by Sara Carner. D600 was introduced in 2010 along with another perfume named Tardes. D600 takes its inspiration from “the urban lifestyle and the Mediterranean spirit of Barcelona.” It’s name stands for Avenida Diagonal 600 which is an address of brand headquarters in Barcelona. D600 is a “vibrant spicy perfume with a touch of mystery.”

Carner Barcelona D600 has an amazing zingy and zesty opening created with juicy notes of bergamot and grapefruit. The initial feeling is tart but then pepper appears with a blast to ultimately spice the citrus combination. This mix of grapefruit, pepper and bergamot is very lively and energetic with a refreshing twist. When the opening notes slowly dissipate they uncover more flowery tones.

Floral notes of D600 are tender, sleek and they carry peaceful, tranquil aura. Iris is in the center of attention here with it’s moderately powdery smell that also possesses a transparent woody element. Cardamom brings sophisticated spiciness to iris, making it even more interesting. Noble note of iris is warm and quite cosy yet delicate like flower petals. Once in a while hints of jasmine pop up from the background without dominating over iris. As D600 spends more time on my skin I noticed more cedar from Virginia. It melts with iris into one making this Carner Barcelona perfume a unique scent.

Few hours later the only notes I could smell were very weak iris, vanilla and vetiver. The middle note (I mean vanilla) was the most prominent on my skin. On the other hand vetiver was noticeable too and luckily it wasn’t a dirty, rooty vetiver I don’t like, but a mild and woody one I really enjoyed! D600 remained in this form until the end of the day slowly losing its volume and power until it disappeared after 10 hours of sitting on my skin and pleasing my nose each time I sniffed my wrist. Gorgeous scent!

D600 was created by Givaudan perfumer Christophe Reynaud.

Officially listed notes are black pepper, bergamot and grapefruit, cardamom, iris and jasmine, cedar, vanilla and vetiver. This eau de parfum is available in 50 ml and 100 ml bottles. The bottles are made of transparent glass and they’re cube-like. Cap is square-shaped and wooden. Carner Barcelona website also offers decent size spray samples. Carner Barcelona D600 strucks me as a beautiful perfume, a unique take on iris. It’s velvety and soft texture are great. It’s kind of thoughtful, nostalgic. From now on D600 is a part of my collection.

  1. D600 was my first perfume purchase and the fragrance that opened the door for me to try all of these wonderful fragrances. It really is a winner. I think I have only 2 spritzes in that original bottle left!

I became interested in this perfume thanks to your review πŸ™‚ And then right before my birthday they had a free shipping offer so I used it and got it as my birthday present.
      D600 is amazing perfume.

Thanks for turning me on to this Lucas. My decant should arrive any day now and I’m thinking of ordering samples of some of their others. Have you tried anything else from them?

    • lucasai says:

The pleasure is all mine lorraine. That’s great you’ll have a decant of D600, but be warned – once you fall for it a decant will be too little for you πŸ˜‰
Yup, I also tried Tardes which is a gorgeous perfume, my second favourite in the line. I also tried Rima XI which I didn’t like as much as the other two but I thought it was really good. Didn’t try Cuirs though.

  3. Undina says:

As I mentioned earlier, I liked D600 and I’ll test it more to decide if I need a decant (or if my vSO “needs” a bottle πŸ˜‰ ).

    • lucasai says:

I loved it from the first moment and iris lover inside me needed a bottle. Hope you’ll like D600 even more after proper testing. Have you decided on fate of Bois d’Iris yet?

      • Undina says:

Nope, not yet. I still have a wear or two in that sample (thanks to you πŸ™‚ ). But in any case it’ll take a while for me to buy the next bottle: there are two many plans and reasons to buy…

  4. Dear Lucas

Iris and cedar? That does sound divine.
I will start putting the feelers out for this as I feel I need a spot of iris – regardless of what the weather’s doing!

    Yours ever
    The Perfumed Dandy

  5. Kafkaesque says:

Congratulations on your new love and birthday bottle! πŸ™‚ It sounds tailor-made for you, dear Lucas! The juicy and spicy aspects that you describe reassure me a little since, as you know, I don’t share your particular passion for iris. I have a small sample, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Hound, and I am looking forward to trying it soon. πŸ™‚

    • lucasai says:

      Thank you my dear!
It really sounds like a bespoke perfume for me and it smells that way too. I have not smelled an iris like that earlier and am happy to have it in my collection.
Oh, so Mr. Hound shared some with you. That’s great, Hope to hear what you think about it.

PS. There’s a swapmeet at NST today πŸ™‚

      • Kafkaesque says:

Yeah, I heard about the swapmeet but I hate going to the post-office, so exchanges don’t really work for me. For my personal ease of mind and convenience, it’s worth paying a little more and just ordering online. But I realise that most people aren’t like me, and that it’s a great way to try out new things and share. πŸ™‚

        • lucasai says:

I like to swap with others. I’m one of those people that hate spending money on buying samples, I really hate to do that (and it’s not just a matter of my student budget) so for me swapping is a great chance to give away some unloved stuff and get something new in return

  6. hajusuuri says:

Now I really really want to try this. I seem to like everything you like/love PLUS some of the ones you didn’t care for. Basically, you have never steered me wrong so this is definitely on the must try list!

    • lucasai says:

I know we share some perfume tastes in common. I’m almost sure you’d enjoy D600 a lot.
I’m glad to hear you like the same things as I do plus some more (some diferrences in our tastes anyway, but there are not many I think)

  7. I’m so glad that you decided on D600 for your birthday bottle! Wonderful review. I loved reading your thoughts about it. On me, the vanilla and vetiver were super prominent. It also smelled kind of like Dr. Pepper on me — which is not a bad thing since I love Dr. Pepper.

Or maybe it means that I was thirsty? πŸ™‚
