Monday Quick Sniffs, part 33

Purple Reign is a creation launched by Tanja Bochnig of April Aromatics in 2015. In this very fragrance you can immediately experience a generous dose of violet flowers that carry a typical, floral, aquatic and ozonic aroma. After some time it’s followed by sheer, pastel colors of almost transparent iris and crispy dewiness of violet leaf. Later on the composition becomes more powdery and sweet when you start to smell lilac combined with some osmanthus. The latter one smells like a mild tea infusion. The fragrance also features some lavender used in gentle amount. Purple Reign feels like spring – light, airy and effervescent. And it’s absolutely female-oriented.

Tabac Tabou, introduced by Parfum d’Empire also in 2015 is a composition of contrasts. On one side it starts sweet and mildly spicy & green with immortelle accord but the fragrance is soon taken over by a creamy-floral facets of narcissus that radiates the yellow aura around itself. Later it is joined by sensual combination of rich, smoky tobacco and honey, sweet and carnal pleasure. Together they blend into an intoxicating combination that is hard to compare with something else and even harder to forget. You’ve never smelled a perfume like this. In the drydown there is musk note and fresh, green accord of cut grass. Weird yet alluring combination. Well done Marc-Antoine Corticchiato.

Le Galion Sortilege Elixir was introduced to the brand’s portfolio in 2015 as well and to me it feels very appropriate for the begininng spring. Composition opens with mixture of jasmine and aldehydes. That first note is not very opulent here, it’s chic and elegant without being too big or dramatic. Aldehydes on the other hand feel quite clean and with a bit of weight. Narcissus and muguet allow Sortilege Elixir to bloom as refined bouquet and as far as I’m concerned, the perfume smells like fresh bedsheets. It’s clean, a little bit green but mostly floral. Notes mentioned as well are vetiver, iris or ylang but I didn’t smell any of those. It’s a pleasing prelude to spring perfume.

Woo hoo – Monday Quick Sniffs!

I hosted a split of Tabac Tabou and kept the partial bottle. It sure is one of the more unusual perfumes out there. I actually get an evolution from green tobacco to sharp tobacco, right before it’s ready to come out of the curing room. It is very well done. Coincidentally, I was planning on wearing it this week!

I am looking forward to trying Purple Reign (love the playful name) and Sortilege Elixir.

Not sure if you will like Sortilege Elixir as it has some lily of the valley but who knows, maybe you will like it.
