Month of roses

Last weekend I came up with the idea that due to the fact that February is claimed to be a month of roses I could wear rose fragrances exclusively through the entire month. But then I realized that even if I love my rose perfume, I don’t own so many to be able to fill the calendar with them. That’s when I reached out to you asking for help, so that we could make it a group effort and complete a February calendar, so that each of 28 days smells of different rose creation.

Your response was fantastic, many of you loved the idea and offered your favorite rose scents to help me with this challenge. Some of you were even ready to be filled in for more days that needed. My dear Undina even decided that she’ll wear only rose fragrances in February, she has so many of them. After taking into consideration all of your generous offers and days when you couldn’t participate, I managed to put it all together. I had so much fun making it work!

The result is a February calendar below. The one & only, unique and rich in roses. Just by looking at it I get the impression as I was smelling a bouquet of fresh roses. As you can see, each different days are assigned to different readers of Chemist in the Bottle and their respective perfume.

calendar-roses

Due to the fact that I’ll be on a business trip in the Netherlands from Jan 31st to Feb 2nd, I will let Hajusuuri and Holly start the fun. I will hop on this rosy bandwagon on Feb 4th for the first time with one of my favorite winter roses – PHI Une Rose de Kandahar from Andy Tauer. I signed myself up for 6 days but I will do my best to wear a rose a couple more times. I hope everyone will enjoy this special February and its rose-richness we’ll create together.

AND it’s your birthday month, too! I will join you in Rose Anonyme to celebrate the day. 🙂

  3. rickyrebarco says:

Thanks, Lucas. Love this! Looking forward to a rosy month!

  4. Undina says:

    Fun!!! Thank you, Lucas!

In addition to “my” days, I’ll join others on your calendar if they wear one of the perfumes that I plan to wear on that month. And I’ll spread other perfumes for days, for which I do not have the corresponding perfumes or would not want to wear those. In total, I see 10-12 days.

    • lucasai says:

Happy to have you as part of the project. Also glad that you’re so fond of this idea that you’re going to do something similar for your readers as well.

  5. What fun! So pleased we will be connected all over the world by this imaginative occasion suggested by Lucas! I look forward to making February a “scent”sational month!!

  6. devonellie says:

Excellent idea!! I have lots of lovely roses and will try to match you day to day! Thanks for the inspiration.

  7. I’m excited to read about some of these roses which I am not familiar with, and happy to participate. It should be an interesting month of reads!

  8. Bina says:

Hi, Thanks a lot for adding me to the team. But I am sorry I don’t have Rosenlust just yet. Please, can I try Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin – instead? I have Portrait of a Lady, but I see from the calendar that Hajusuuri is already trying that.

  9. […] own, he invited his readers to take a part, and based on everybody’s responses Lucas created a calendar of who will be wearing which perfume and on which […]

  10. Undina says:

Wearing Mohur Extrait for the first day of th Month of Roses. It smells divine!

  11. hajusuuri says:

hajusuuri reported for duty today wearing the super-gorgeous NVC Mohur Extrait! Now passing the baton to our dear Holly!

  12. Holly says:

Baton accepted from our charming hajusuuri and am wafting the brilliant Rose Cut! Get ready for the transfer tomorrow, Bina!

    • Bina says:

Reporting on Day 3 of The Month Roses. Thank you Holly, accepted baton. Wearing Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin and feeling glamourous! Handing over to Lucas himself tomorrow.

      • Undina says:

I wore La Fille de Berlin today. It is a beautiful perfume.

        • Bina says:

That’s lovely, Undina! What a lovely celebration of my favourite fragrance, this is turning out to be! Lucas, Thank you for planning ‘The Month of Roses. Perfect!

        • rickyrebarco says:

Don’t know where you are located. I got my bottle from LuckyScent.com in the US. I believe they ship internationally. i am wearing the Diptyque Essences Rose Insensee’ today and tomorrow. It is a gorgeous European rose scent. I’ve been wearing rose fragrances every day in February so far and hope to keep it up all month.

  13. Yukio Aime says:

Oud Palao and I, we are bore ready on Feb, 7th (Tue) 🙂

  14. lucasai says:

My turn today so Andy Tauer PHI it is.
Ricky, you’ll be up next tomorrow! Also, I will join you with Diptyque Essences Insensees 2016. I bought a decant and it has arrived few days ago

  15. rickyrebarco says:

Today is my rose day! Diptyque Essences Rose Insensee’ is such a Mai rose beauty. Light but lasting, full bodied rose in bloom. Not too sweet, not too ‘twiggy.’ It’s just right for me. I love the feeling of being connected to people around the world with Rose Month.. Thank you, Lucas!! I’m drinking tea with rose petals today also.

  16. malsnano86 says:

Ah yes, roses in February. I’m hopping on the train. 🙂 Last week I wore Teo Cabanel Oha, MFK Lumiere Noire pf, and Le Galion La Rose, and I’m starting this week in YSL Paris. I’ll be back to report.

  17. Today is my assigned day for our roses month! We are headed for our neighbors Super Bowl party and I will be going quite posh in Hermes Rose Amazone. I have worn a sample from my lovely Hermes perfume lady at Nordstrom and think it is simply perfect!
To celebrate our roses month a bit more I recently purchased Diptyque’s limited edition candle Rosa Mundi. Have not lit it yet; tomorrow is the day. I will report my impressions.
Off to the party smelling fabulous!

  18. rickyrebarco says:

Today is Keiko Mecheri’s gorgeous Mogador. Gorgeous jammy rose. Sniffing my wrist all day!

    • Undina says:

Yesss! Thank you for reminding me about it: I was just looking for the replacement of one potentially unavailable scent in my line-up for the month. I really liked this one when I tried it, and I was even thinking about buying a decant of it.
      You smell great!

      • rickyrebarco says:

Thanks, Undina. Have you tried Keiko Mecheri’s Attar de Roses? I want to try that one, too.

        • Undina says:

Not yet: I have no access to this brand in a store, and with their range of perfumes it’s not something you just go and try from buying samples. I like their Johana (and have a bottle) and I liked a couple of samples that I’ve procured, but I wouldn’t know where to go next: nobody seems to write about the brand recently.

          • rickyrebarco says:

Today is Acqua di Parma Rosa Nobile, a citrusy fresh rose, orange, lime notes with nice pepper, musk and cedar. Very fresh and uplifting. Mecheri’s Mogador and Diptyque’s Essences Insensee” 2016 Rose de Mai are still my favorite rose scents but the Rosa Nobile is a lighter alternative scent for those who like citrus with their rose.

    • Jillie says:

Love the word Mogador!!! Sounds like a character from Lord of the Rings, or a good name for a kittie!!

  19. Jillie says:

I have been wearing Yves Rocher’s Rose Absolue for the last few days and as I could have sworn someone on the Diary was down to comment, I didn’t want tread on their toes …. but now I can’t see it – silly eyes, I must have been mistaken!

So, just to say how lovely and much missed this long departed little gem is. Maybe slightly sweet with its big dollop of tonka, but so pretty. Its fragrance has been described as “jammy”, which is quite apt; it’s a bit like a rich Turkish Delight, with whispers of cinnamon and patchouli. For me it was an excellent, cheap substitute for Lancome’s Mille et une Roses, and I had the whole range – cologne, parfum, edp, bath foam, deodorant and body milk! A bouquet of roses.

    • Undina says:

Julie, I have a practically full 5 ml mini bottle of this perfume, which I do not plan to wear. If you’re in the U.S. I’ll be glad to send this bottle to you (contact me using e-mail from my About page or gravatar.

      • Jillie says:

Undina that is incredibly sweet of you – sadly I am in the UK so can’t accept your kind offer. But maybe someone else would love to be able to smell this? Thank you and best wishes.

        • Undina says:

Actually, UK isn’t a problem as well: I have a friend (aka”perfume mule”) who travels to the U.K. once every couple of months and doesn’t mind mailing my packages from inside the country. It’ll just be a pity to waste this bottle when there’s somebody who might actually enjoy it.

  20. lucasai says:

It’s my turn again and I’m wearing Olivier Durbano Pink Quartz as planned

  21. hajusuuri says:

hajusuuri reporting for duty! I am working from home again today and adjusted my perfume. Today, I am wearing Lush Imogen Rose, powdery rose and Iris. I have a pencil-like travel spray which LUSH discontinued. I wish they would bring it back as this format is sleeker and more elegant than the squatter transparent glass bottle.

    • Jillie says:

Given my rose/violet/powder combo love, that must be rather a nice fragrance! Just off to check whether they discontinued Imogen Rose itself …..

      • hajusuuri says:

It’s a nice fragrance with the powder invests coming from Tonka and not violets. Have you tried Guerlain French Kiss? Rose and violets and powdery!

        • lucasai says:

I have not tried that one either (Shame on you Chanel, Guerlain, Dior for not having even 1 boutique in Poland)

          • hajusuuri says:

I know, right? I think Brexit will benefit Poland so you may not have long to wait before these companies start sprouting like mushrooms. Also, aren’t you due for a trip to Paris?

            • lucasai says:

Possibly. Nowadays when someone wants one of those boutique exclusives, we search for a mule in Germany.

Not planning to go to Paris at the moment. Are you in need of a SL Bell Jar? I can buy it for you, they ship Bell Jars to Poland without problem

            • Jillie says:

Hi Hajusuuri – Mmmmmmm French Kiss sounds perfect!

Brexit is a disaster for the UK (in my opinion); prices here are already rising astronomically and I can foresee problems with mailing perfume to the UK from Europe once we leave …. boo hoo. It used to be cheaper sometimes to order from France or Germany, even including postage, but this is already a thing of the past.

  22. Undina says:

Since hajusuuri had extenuating circumstances, I wore PoaL for both of us! 🙂

  23. Holly says:

Happy weekend everyone! I’m wearing our friend Andy Tauer’s lovely Incense Rose.

  24. rickyrebarco says:

My scent of the day post ended up in the wrong place so i’ll try again. I’m wearing today for the rose calendar, Acqua di Parma Rosa Nobile, a citrusy fresh rose, orange, lime notes with nice pepper, musk and cedar.

Hi Ricky – I found Rose Nobile almost too light for my nose and it departed quickly from my skin! But I think it would be a refreshing rose for the heat of the summer.

  25. […] on with the Month of Roses project at Chemist in the Bottle, SOTD was L’Arte di Gucci. The CEO did laundry all day yesterday, but there is STILL a large […]

  26. Undina says:

I was too busy to report back but on February 12 I wore Ta’if (it’s still one of my top 10) and today I’m following the calendar in Rose 31: I enjoy this spicy rose when I wear it but I rarely crave it.

  27. Bina says:

Apologies for being late with my report from 14th February. Happily wore Louis Vuitton Rose des Ventes. Felt very elegant. I am always amazed at how fragrances can make us feel a different person. Also surprising how many different facets the Rose has!

  28. Bina says:

I have something to add, about Rose des Ventes. This seems to be a very light fragrance, never overpowers the wearer. But lasts really long on me. And that is most surprising because light fragrances and edts never lasts on me – just evaporates! I am so glad to have found this lovely fragrance. It has shot up to the top of my favourites list

Lucas, waiting for an expert’s interpretation of this perfume.

  29. hajusuuri says:

hajusuuri here reporting in for fragrant duty 🙂

Today, I’m in Jo Malone Red Roses. It’s pretty much a straight up Rose soliflor. What would you layer with it?

  30. lucasai says:

It’s another lovely day in a month of roses.
Being in charge of this Sunday, I’m wearing Rose Omeyyade as promised.

My instagram picture of the day: https://www.instagram.com/p/BQsAQ7nAKvZ/

  31. lucasai says:

Yesterday was my Histoires de Parfums Rosam day. Love this kind of rose

  32. WOO HOO! Today in Australia I’ll be wearing Ballets Rouges. I know it takes a while for the rest of the world to catch up but I wanted you all to know I’ve got this.
    Portia xxxx

  33. rickyrebarco says:

Minya’s Hedonist Rose today. Love the bubbly champagnish feel of the opening and the sweetish rose. Definitely different and lovely. Thanks again for Rose Month- it’s been wonderful. Maybe another month in the spring? Violet month, LOTV month? I’ve just ordered the new Guerlain Arts and Matieres Tuberose fragrance. It seems more of a summery scent, but I can’t wait till it gets here!

I’ve also been reading all your reviews on the Carner Barcelona brand also. I have yet to try one of their scents that I did not like. Tardes has been a long time favorite. Love it more each time I wear it. I have been testing the Carner scents lately and they are just warm and skin-licious. They seem to become a delicious part of me by the end of the day. I am loving this house more and more all the time. Thanks for all your wonderful reviews of their fragrances!

I wonder if you were to pick another note you could focus on for a month, what would it be? I know what mine would be, and I have Lucas to thank for bringing it to my attention. Can anyone guess what it is?
