What inspires – Introduction to Esxence 2019

Can you hear the Spring knocking at your door? Even though the weather still has mood swings (yesterday it brought us snow again!) there are too many signs in heaven and earth to ignore the fact that new season is almost here. In my neighborhood many tiny green buds started appearing on trees and bushes. Since 2014 there’s one more special event to mark in my Spring calendar – Esxence in Milan. To be honest with you at the beginning of this year I still didn’t know if I’ll attend, there was a lot of uncertainty and many events going on in my life. But now I decided that I’m going!

This 11th edition of Esxence, and at the same time a 6th one for me (can you believe?) is taking place surprisingly late this year – at the end of April, when it was at the end of March usually. It’s definitely going to be warmer but I wonder if magnolia blooming season will be over by the time I come to Milan again… This year’s motto is Inspiration Flow, which refers to the creative process. It’s also a play in Italian words inspirare-inspiring and ispirare-inhaling. Will the upcoming edition of the perfume fair bring a breath of something new & exciting? We’ll find out in 1,5 months.

  1. I hope that this year we will see something more creative and that the perfumers risk more and do something new and not be in the same of the same as we have seen in the current launches …. success and great perfumed trip !!!

I’m hoping for some reviews of interesting perfumes! Last year several bloggers seemed to think they had, at least partly, wasted time by going.

    • lucasai says:

That’s true, especially Pitti was disappointing last year

      • Ingeborg says:

I cannot remember exactly what I read, but I guess some grumbling has more to do with perfumers and marketing people not always switching attitude between the days for the professionals and days open to the public. So perhaps about meeting and greeting, not only what’s in the bottles.

        • lucasai says:

Well I haven’t met with any weird attitudes towards me but then I am mostly dealing with pople who I know for some years and consider friends

  3. cookie queen says:

I’ll be there this year. With my daughter. 😊
Dunno how much time I will spend at the show, but there will be something going on for Vero – that’s really why I am going. But I’m excited to see some people too. ❤️

  4. Jillie says:

Aaah! You might be meeting Val The Cookie Queen, you lucky thing!

That all sounds hopeful. But the name has made a late 80s song by Enya, Orinoco Flow, go round and round in my head! It’s a lovely song though.

I’m glad that you’ve been able to decide what to do, and also glad to hear that you’re going. I always enjoy reading about your impressions and seeing your Instagram posts! That being said, most of all I sincerely hope that you’ll enjoy this year’s event.

    • lucasai says:

Esxence is different and bigger compared to Pitti and so far I was not disappointed by a Milan event. Pitti has it hard because TFWA in Cannes is just a little bit later and many prefer to show up there

  6. Undina says:

I keep promising myself that one day I’ll go there… meanwhile I’ll live vicariously through you 🙂

I think a secret to a good trip is to plan some events/meetings/activities in advance not hoping to figure out something then and there (if you do, you can always change plans later).

I look forward to watching your Instagram and reading posts here.

    • lucasai says:

It would be a blast to meet you in Milan! You’d have loved it!

You’re right, I usually try to plan meetings with my favorite brands but sometimes they just say ‘come when you want, we’ll be there all the time’. Hopefully brands and people I know usually find time for me, even if not planned.

      • Undina says:

Oh, I didn’t mean meetings at the exhibition. I meant activities outside – sightseeing, museums, dinners with someone you know, shopping, etc. Then, if you feel bored with what you see/smell, you have a Plan B to improve your chances of enjoying the trip (though I hope it’ll be good in the Plan A stage 🙂 ).

        • lucasai says:

I don’t really do sightseeing in Milan anymore, I’ve seen what I wanted to see when I came here on one of my summer holidays to do only sightseeing for 3 days.
But dinners sure, so many good places for dinner there

  7. hajusuuri says:

Yay! Like Undina said. I, too, was hoping to attend in-person one day but in the meantime, will live vicariously through you.

I still remember how you were tickled pink with your Press credentials!

Perhaps after being immersed in the Inspiration Flow theme you’ll share with us your inspiration for your debut fragrance, whenever that may be!

    • lucasai says:

Please come one time! It would be awesome 🙂

Yes, time really flies and that was 6 years ago.

Well, I don’t know. I have ideas but don’t want to talk about them openly. What if someone read that idea and tries to steal it for their own benefit?
