It’s this time of the year again! But before we get to celebrate The Oscars 2017 on 26th February there is another thing to celebrate two days earlier, on 24th – that is today. Far away from the flashing cameras, paparazzi, red carpet, on a different continent I’m having my own celebration because it’s my birthday. Can I be honest with you? Every year when this day approaches I get this weird questions appearing in my head, like – am I a good person? What am I doing with my life? Am I doing things right? Is it what I want? And of course I have many doubts if I’m able to answer them properly. At the age of 27 I surely don’t know everything.
But you know what? Things are changing. Actually many things have changed already! And I can also feel it in my bones that 2017 might be a life-changing year with something amazing happening in coming months. You know I have dreams. And you know I dream big. But there were first signs last year and they can create a correct path to fulfilling them. For a certain – there is no room for giving up in my life. Things don’t happen when you want them to – they happen when the world things you are ready for them. I have time, I’m still young, I’m patient. I will wait!
Every year I treat myself to a special birthday perfume. This year I’ve been thinking a lot and I narrowed it down to: Chanel Boy, Hiram Green Arbole Arbole, Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele, Guerlain Derby. Can you help me decide? Since none of them are available in Poland I would shop for them online or in case of Chanel/Guerlain, I would buy them in boutique when in Milan next month. Now everyone – there’s a champagne over there and here I have some chocolate-pear cake. We can party all night long to celebrate my 27th birthday. You are the best fragrance friends!
PS. All digits in my birth date sum to 27, by the way.

Well, I haven’t ever tried the Guerlain Derby, but being a fan of that house (at least of the older fragrances) I think it would be rather lovely, classic and classy, and the notes look perfect. It is also outrageously expensive and difficult to get hold of, so that makes it even more tempting! I guess you will be able to test first when you are in Milan.

I have both Chanel Boy, and Arbole. Chanel Boy is great, and I quite enjoy, but for something special, Arbole! Arbole seems perfect for a Birthday present to self. It’s different, interesting, and about growth, trees! Rahele didn’t do it for me (blasphemy I know). Happy Birthday!

Thinking back, I had just gotten married at 27 and embarked on my first ‘real’ job as a lawyer. And a life in the big city, Washington, D.C. It was a good year and I hope this will be a great year for you, too!

Keep going towards your goals! It’s almost never easy to get where you want to be so while working hard towards that, do not forget to enjoy life, your age, health and everything else that you already have, not waiting to do all that once you reach your goals.
As to the birthday perfume, I’d vote for Arbole Arbole or Rahele: these two, in my opinion, are much more special and unique and both Guerlain and Chanel are too mundane for a self-gift. Besides, both Boy and Derby come in sizes that are more suitable for splitting – but I would feel bad “splitting” perfume I got for myself (I would not mind gifting somebody with a portion or swapping decants but selling feels different). But whatever you decide, the most important part is that you should enjoy it.

Happy Birthday Lucas! Hmmmm, you have some tough choices to make. I love Rahele…which seemed to be either a love or not for many. To me it’s Neela’s best. And Arbole Arbole is terrific and very different from anything out there. As for Derby…it’s classic, but you might get bored with it. If you don’t have a lot of traditional masculine fragrances in your collection, it might be a nice add. In any case, you’ll do well with any of the choices! Oh, so be so young again. 🙂
